\nThe agriculture sector in India contributes
\n16% of the GDP and employs 49% of the total workforce of the country. Public
\nexpenditure towards the agriculture sector has been poor, however, the Union
\ngovernment has promised the farmer\u2019s income would be doubled by 2022. The role
\nof women in agriculture is critical. As per Census 2011, out of total female
\nmain workers, 55 per cent were agricultural labourers and 24 per cent were
\ncultivators[2]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.
\nHowever, women own only 12.08 % of all operational holdings (Agricultural
\nCensus 2011-12)[3]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a>.
\nThe Economic Survey, 207-18 emphasized the need for \u201cPolicy for Women Farmers\u201d.
